Symposium Aim

In response to the growing demand for spirituality and well-being sciences across local communities and Asia, our symposium aims to foster international intellectual exchange across the globe; bring together renowned scholars, inspirational speakers, and experts to engage in stimulating discussions and deeper learning on the latest developments in the science of happiness, promoting kindfulness, sharing practices and approaches in caring for our well-being.

Symposium Venue:
Tsz Shan Monastery

The kindfulness symposium will take place at the scenic and serene Tsz Shan Monastery, a significant project of the Li Ka Shing Foundation, renowned as one of Hong Kong's hidden gems. With the great support of Mr. Li Ka Shing, the Monastery was officially opened to the public in 2015 and has since welcomed over two million visitors and practitioners from around the world. In addition to regular ritual ceremonies, the Monastery also offers mindfulness experiences to visitors such as water offering, sutra copying and forest therapy, providing ways for the general public to cultivate inner tranquility and equanimity. Subsequently, Tsz Shan Monastery Buddhist Art Museum was opened in 2019, where visitors can travel through time and space on a journey with over 140 stunning pieces of transnational Buddhist art.

Tsz Shan Institute

Tsz Shan Institute, the research and spiritual educational division of the Monastery, was established in 2016. Over the years, the institute endeavors to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and aims to provide systematic and comprehensive Dharma education to people of all ages and backgrounds; dedicated to responding to the spiritual needs of society and promoting positive psychology and compassion through various courses, experiential programmes, retreats, youth empowerment initiatives, community outreach, and research projects. Throughout these years, we have been collaborating with universities including UC Berkeley, the University of Chicago, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, etc.

The Hong Kong Psychological Society

Established in 1968, the Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS) is the largest organization of all disciplines of psychology in Hong Kong. It serves as a learned society to promote psychological science as well as a professional organization to uphold highest psychological practice standards. It has over 3000 members, more than half of which are practising psychologists serving the community in various settings. The HKPS has four Divisions, namely Clinical Psychology (DCP), Educational Psychology (DEP), Industrial-Organizational Psychology (DIOP), and Counselling Psychology (DCoP). The HKPS has been co-hosting annual conferences with local universities for the public benefit and is most happy to co-organize this symposium with Tsz Shan Institute.
